Goodnight Sweetheart

I collected red fabrics for several years while I worked to get an acceptable corner medallion for the blocks.  Using a choice of fifty or more, I began this project in January and paper pieced for two and one half months.  Goodnight Sweetheart has all bias edges but it was perfectly square when quilted.  The name came for this red and white beauty from a valentine song I heard while piecing it.

String of Pearls

String of Pearls, a whole cloth quilt, was made using ivory cotton sateen.  The designs came from an old cotton bedspread.  A string of tiny seed pearls was hand stitched into the binding.  This beauty more than met my expectations after I completed it.

Hibiscus

I am always inspired by the old block patterns to make something new from these old mid 1800s quilts.  Hibiscus began without a name when I gathered up my sketches and some quilting materials and started a cruise to Hawaii with my family.  The beautiful flowering hibiscus of Hawaii immediately seemed an appropriate name to give my new quilt.  My friends asked me which is my favorite quilt.  My answer is always the same… the one I’m working on until it is finished.  I like the challenge of working out the details of each phase of the quilt as I go along.  Choosing the bright rose and blue batiks for Hibiscus stepped up the color and made it fun to appliqué. It is trapuntod and quilted with wool batting and fine silk thread.  Both are a joy to use.
