Memories  From Granny’s Trunk

I experimented with the dark wood block print and the mud fabric after I saw the picture of an antique star quilt  from the Shelburne Museum Collection.  This choice gave the quilt the old worn and used look. It lay in my UFO drawer for several years before I decided to quilt it with Silky Sliver thread  to give the “old look” a bit of sparkle.

Prairie Fire

Prairie Fire began with 1 ˝ yards of fabric with gradation of bright clear colors that my dear quilting friend brought me as a gift.  The large star was strip pieced with coordinating batiks.  It was quilted with smoke nylon and 100wt. black silk thread and wool batting.  It was a dream to quilt.

Lady Bug, Lady Bug…

The pattern for the block was adapted from the border.  For several years, I was fascinated by the 3-D look of this border and attempted to use it for several other quilts.  I was happy when I found a fitting home for it with this simple block.  This quilt also features special lady bug buttons handmade and painted by women in Africa.
